Default Brake question?

My father in law has a 98 half ton qc 4x4 LB, has horrible braking capabilities, truck just wont stop, I have seen many posts with the LD2500 front caliper swap, my question is do the LD calipers have to be from a 98 or 96. Also do you use 1500 pads or the LD pads? He is very meticulous on his maint. and care of the truck so that is not an issue.Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

If the brakes do not perform well, I would find out what was wrong before attemoting any modification. There is a liklihood of brake lines collapsing which would need checked. Also, improper adjustment could be a problem. I can stiop on a dime with std calipers and extreme duty pads. I did change rear wheel cylinders to GM 3/4 ton cyl for increased piston diameter.

what gm vehicle did you order them for? i was doing some quick searching on rock auto and it looks like the gm's use the same 1 1/16" bore that the 3500 dodges use. i know on some of the older dodge truck you can get wheel cylinders with 1 1/8" bore. i guess any of these would be a bit better than the 15/16" bore that seems to be stock.

The rear brakes need to be adjusted quite frequently also. No matter what mod is done.
