Default Throttle body extremely dirty, Intake questions

Hey, I have a question. I just bought a new old Dodge (97 1500 5.2 4x4), and was looking into some easy economy/power mods. I was thinking just a cheap-ish cold air intake, some stainless headers, and then a Fastman throttle body for now, nothing huge.

So I popped off the air cleaner, and noticed it had a lot of cracks, nbd. Then, I looked down into the current stock Holley tb, and noticed the little flaps (don't know real name) were filthy, covered in a thick grime. It wipes off easy enough, but from my very limited experience, this was not normal. Can't get a picture, but it was around a sixteenth of an inch thick. Is this a normal amount of buildup?

Also, are those three mods recommended together? o2 sensors too?

Is the plenum fixed?(stickied thread)
o2 sensors please use denso or ngk
The flaps are called butterflies and dont know if tht is normal build up but just get some tb or carb cleaner and clean it out. it could be from the crank case breather (the tube that goes into your airbox on the drivers side toward the firewall) mine gets build up in it and I just clean it out. I would do those upgrades together, but before you do anything make shure your plenum is fixed other wise i would do that first if it isnt.
While you are going into your truck make shure you have enough blinker fluid it can add up to 25 horses!!
Also dont forget the fuzzy dice lots of power gains there (Quote 2x1972)

Thanks, I think my uncle added some blinker fluid when he sold it to me...I will have to look into the plenum. I doubt it has been replaced. If mine is faulty, I would be surprised. I have been pretty impressed with the performance/ fuel economy so far compared to my dad's/grampa's 1st gen/2nd gen dodges.

Even if the stock one is still in there and functioning, I will prolly replace it when I get the Fastman. My current position enables me to spend about 700 (more) on the pickup. Heck, I might look into doing one of them kegger mods if I have the time between job/school this fall.

read up on the plenum thread you can learn a lot also if you are above 120,000 do a double roller timing chain. the kegger mod moves your power band up some rpms so you gain in the mid high rpms depends on what you want thow. Also a sct tuner from hemifever ~$265 is another good power investment. And we all want more horsies right
