Default Trac-Lok question

I got the new Spicer Trac-Loc kit and I;m ready to re assemble this thing. This might be a stupid question, how do the retainers hold the plates together? Dry fitting them together on the bench the retainers fall right off? Does the carrier offer some support of them?

I want to get this part right, it looks like this was the failure spot of the stock set up and led to the bearing damage.

Heres what the manual says:

The discs just float in the retainers, there is no lock to it at all.

Yeah , I just went out to the garage and put one side together in the carrier and I see exactly how it works. The retainers ride in the cut outs built into the carrier. Thanks!
