Default Finished 46RE rebuild - Question

Just finished 46RE rebuild for the first time. Am planning on 10-15qts of ATF-4. New TQ, Radiator, Cooler etc. Updraded parts from PATC.....anxious to see how it works out.

As far as filling the tranny is there a process by which you put X quarts in and turnover the engine while in neutral to pump the fluid and then add remaining to proper level? Or dump the min (10qts) and start the engine let it warmup and recheck? Dont know that it matters....

Is there any break in process?....I do not believe there is.

I have read in a few places on this board that the FSM is in error in respect with band setting....something to the effect the Haines manual reference is correct.
Front band backed off 2 7/8 and rear band 2 turns per the FSM. Ram is a 99, 5.6L......can anyone confirm? I do not have a Haines manual but all info I have found on the web matches the FSM

Thanks for the help

if i remember right i think it holds like 6 quarts or something, i would add 3, start it, cycle thru the gears 10 secs in each gear and then add another 2 quarts, and then warm it up and cycle the gears and then add as needed. thats just what i would do..

On a dry fill it should take 9 to 16.5 quarts depending on model and options.

When I did mine it took about 20 quarts, but I installed a deeper pan too. Add 10 and check the level, keep adding in one quart increments until it's full on the dipstick. Drive and let it shift through all the gears a couple dozen times and check it again. As far as band adjustment, I set mine the same as you posted and haven't had any problems.
