1999 1/2 2wd ton to 3/4 2wd
After researching the 2500 of the same year and body style uses the same frame as the 1500 and I also found out other than dual wheels what makes a 3500 a 1 ton is the fact that the overload springs come standard from the factory on a 1 ton, the 1/2 ton has the mounting holes for the overload springs.
Another thing is that on the worst day I might haul a 6000 trailer or a ton and 1/2 in the bed and the weight ratings for the 1500 and 2500 are both 8800 pounds gas or diesel

man thats a ton oh work,, body swaps on new stuff is a pain so many wires and vac stuff
i would body swap, and cut the frame and box the rear down to a short box,, you would save so much time.... i belive the back halft on the frame at the end of the cab the frame it peciced toghter there

I myself am kinda leery about cutting up the frame that and I do not have the equipment to do a whole body off frame project; actually when you think about it it's reall only a three part swap (1)rear axle and spring assemblies (2) front suspension parts half of which are already interchangeable and (3) the engine and trans with its self inclusive wiring. I personally think the hardest part is going to be grinding the spring perches off each truck and re hanging them.
No i think the hardest part is gonna be shoehorning that cummins and tranny in there. I swaped my 5.2 and tranny by myself but with a ton of effort. when you get to that point of the project you might want to have 3 sets if hands.
That and I am going to put the motor and tranny in seperately after I go through them to ensure their safety, reliability and cleanliness the best way that I have found to do it is removing the front fenders, bumper and radiator support so the engine will slide in with enough room; that's how most diesel shops do it. Then I will put the tranny and crossmember in from the bottom.
cut frame,,, sawaz, angle grider, and a welder
new motor mounts,,, sawaz, angle grider, and a welder

i have always wonder my self if 3/4 8lug rotors would fit on my 1/2 spindles.. alway liked the look of 8 lug and wheel options
