4.88 gears needed!!!!!!!! Or 4.56 difference...
As my luck would have it, the shop that did my 4.88 gears the end of last year set them up incorrectly, and now I'm back where I started needing a complete rebuild. Well, I went to order a new 4.88 gear set this week, and just my luck, I think literally every single gear manufacturer has the 4.88s for a 9.25 rearend on national backorder. I mean Yukon, G2, Motive, US Gear, Superior, Sierra...
Does anyone have or know of anyone with a set of 4.88s, new or used? Any shops that might have a set on the shelf other than Randys?
Second question, my only other option is going with a 4.56. I have a V6, manual trans, 35" tires. Would I notice a large difference between the 4.56 vs. 4.88, particularly when taking off on an incline or with a couple thousand pound trailer?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

4.56 gears are going to bring you back to stock gear range with those 35's. but it would be better than nothing.
question for you..... you have a 2001, did you install your 2nd battery using a battery box from a diesel? if so, where did you remount the emissions stuff? i installed a dual battery setup on my rig, and have no place to put the emissions stuff.
sorry to thread jack, but im glad i found someone with the same year truck with dual batteries!

Dang, that was what I was afraid of. I really liked having that extra torque with those 4.88s as opposed to the stock gear range. My biggest worry is the torque loss when towing a trailer and launching my skis from the ramp.
But onto the batteries! Cool that someone finally noticed that mod. Basically, I did a custom install using those marine battery boxes, and remounted the emissions stuff to the side of it. I'll send you a PM with all the info.
