Default rim/ tire question

I bought my 2000 Ram Sport 1500 Ext. cab with some after market wheels but I am thinking I want some different ones. The ones on it now are Boss Motorsports and they are 20 inch rims, running a 285/50/20 tire, what size are these equal to? The truck isnt lifted but it seems I have alot of empty fender space, Is it better to run a 16 inch rim? Isnt the 285's equal to a 33 inch tire? On the drivers side door, the sticker says something like 275/70/16 I think, what size do most on here run(rim size) I mean it looks good, but a tire just dont look like a tire without all that rubber! lol looks like a flattened doughnut. lol ANy suggestions?

Well the 285/50/20 is just under 32". It should fit in there fine.... I run a 265/70/17 which are around the same height, plenty of meat....

I think you'll find more stock 16" wheels then anything else in the 2nd Gen crowd, I run stock 17" wheels, although they weren't an option my for truck.....

yeah they fit fine, but it seems like I have alot of empty fender space, its almost like it has a lift kit with little tires on it. lol I was offered $1000 for the rims and tires from a guy at work, I thought maybe sell them to him and add a little cash with it to get a rim and tire package somewhere, the tires thats on it dont seem like they would be good for winter, but then again here in Oho we only got maybe 10 snow days last year. Maybe its because Im not really used to them yet. But te truck does seem to sit higher than my moms ra which is an 01, but I have looked and there isnt a body lift or suspension lift on it. I know what you mean about the stock 16 inch rims, not having much luck on that. lol
