Default Starting problem

Have ran into a problem where on a bad day my truck won't start. Can hear the solenoid click but wont crank the starter. I decided to dig around and found that what I believe to be the negative starter solenoid wire to be loose. When it will crank it only pulls 10v from battery and sounds weak. Is this typically due to a weak connection on the solenoid or a bad starter? I have a feeling it's the connection but not positive. The battery holds a full charge.

if the battery is charged up (12+ volts), and jumper cables don't help, then check on dirty battery terminals, cables, and on to the starter.

an indication of whether the starter is pulling any power or not is to turn on the headlights, then try the starter. if the lights dim down, then the starter is drawing big power. if they don't then the starter is not drawing power either due to relay, wiring, or contacts in the starter.

sometimes you can smack the side of the starter pretty firmly with a rubber hammer and shake it loose.
