coolant temperature

Default coolant temperature

i have a 2001 3500 diesel quad cab ,what is the right temperature for the temp gauge to be reading?
around town it reads 190, with a camper on it has been reading on the high side , when out in the bush and pulling up hills
it has climbed into the red .

take your rad, air-to-air, and a/c condenser out and pressure wash all of them FROM STRAIGHT ON to clean them out. That sounds like the problem to me anyways since you go out in the boonies all that dirt and grass and junk collects between the fins and your rad has no flow through it. Washing it while they are still in the vehicle will only make things worse by pushing all of it in further and plugging up everything. If your antifreeze is murky flush everything out (If you can't get ahold of a flush gun, you can try sealing a garden hose to the bottom outlet and cranking it on and off, letting it drain in between). That would be the first thing I would try.
