power steering leak help

Default power steering leak help

1998 Ram 1500 5.2 4x4....I noticed the high pressure power steering hose was leaking where the pressed fitting is, I replaced the hose, and again that new hose is leaking in the same spot. what gives? thx

Are you talking on the pump side or gear box? Leaking both ends? I'm not sure what you mean by "pressed fitting" other then NOT the threaded fitting.

Did you remember to place new o-ring on the fitting of the hose? You gotta also get that bugger on real tight!

Agreed. Also make sure the old O-ring isn't down inside under the new O-ring. They do tend to stick when the fitting is removed and both O-rings in there will cause a leak.

thx for the replies, i checked with my mechanic and he says its a manufacturing defect. I did install new o rings, it's not leaking from the threads on either end, one end has a pressed fitting just after the thread. it's where the metal tube comes out of the fluid filler and changes to the rubber hose. thats the fitting thats leaking..guess i gotta get a higher quality hose and try again.

zman17 i bought it from autozone i think it's the duralast brand, anyway i got a new one from napa today, lets see if it holds this time. Napa brand was only $1 more in price
