Fuel return? What is this?

Sorry, gasser question coming from a diesel guy...
What's this do?

And this is also in the line... Looking to hook up my fuel return, probably will just run new 1/4" hose back to tank.. No idea what this is to the left of my index finger

I think that (first pic) is the evap canister, evaporated gasoline is stored and then eventually sent back to the engine to be burned

Vapor canister and purge solenoid. Gets rid of gas vapors by burning it instead of sending it into the atmosphere
