Default 95 truck with 97 column issue

I have a 1995 2500 4x4 cummins that had a bad shake in the column that I could'nt figure out what was causing it.

Any way I swapped it with a 97 1500 360 v8 column and everything works except the shift linkage arm will not line up. If I put the shifter inside to park then the trans into park manually with the rod the column lever is about 1 inch too high on the new column. If I hook it up I can go from Park to reverse than it stops. I pulled it back out and did a side by side and they are indeed different...

I have never heard where these changes ever popped up before.
Has anyone ever experienced differences in the columns like this?

thanks

Rob

anyone know if a 94 column is diffrerent than a 95-98. I have seen some columns with a threaded end where they go into the intermediate shaft as opposed to the "d" shape.

Don't know about the column swap, but the www.rocksolidramsteering.com would have fixed the original one.

Or its death wobble and there is something else wrong. A "shake " in the column can be many things. I think a better description would help.

And you need a column out of a 94 to 96 only. a 97 simply wont work.

I tried the Rock Solid, but that's more if the bottom bushing is shot and mine was actually tight. mine seemed more like either the u-joint or tilt area.. just couldn't actually see what was wrong.

It's basically forward and back shake and side to side, not turning play. I have no wander, shimmy, or driving a boat feeling. No noise in the pedals, no scraping or thumping noise....

What caused this is some little previous owner grabbing the wheel when they went to hop up in the seat. I'm 6 ft and felt my self doing it until I realized how it happened.

OK so 94 to 96 only. this is basically trans linkage dependent since that (and possibly cruise control) is all that doesnt work? ie 46/47RE or 47RH/RE didn't matter?

what about the 94 that I think came with a threaded type of intermediate shaft joint piece as opposed to the "d" style slide in piece that gets clamped on the intermediate shaft?

I have a guy local that buys about 3 parts trucks a week and parts them out all the time... I just roll over there and hand him a list. He had a column cheap so I snagged it not even realizing and of course the shift linkage was the last thing I did. my fault for doing a thorough side by side 1st... live and learn.

Thanks

I think the D is all auto's at the column end, and splines at the gear box end. And I called my local JY and him look it up before my previous reply. He stated that all 94 to 96 w/tilt wheel work, according to the interchange on his computer.
