I am sorry, but that's just ridiculous and dangerous. The maximum tow weight your Ram was designed for; frame, engine, transmission, etc; was 7000-7100 lbs. In some far between situations, I could understand going a little over that. But 14000 lbs?? Even if Chrysler did build in a safety margin into their rating, I highly doubt it was double.

That weight is meant for a diesel or at least a V10, and at bare minimum a 2500.

I am not trying to start a flame war here, and as a moderator I try to refrain from making polarizing comments, but I had to speak out on this one. If you value your life and others on the road, I highly advise against anyone ever doing something like that.

To the OP: 5000 lbs will be fine. O/D off and nice and slow.

Kind of reviving an old thread here but I have an 86 chevy mud truck that I need to tow to the pit. Truck weighs 5000-5500lbs and trailer 2000lbs. I have to tow about 25 miles. This is the heaviest load ive ever considered with my truck. Would you do it? Or should I ask a buddy to tow it with a cummins? Only issue is buddy is pretty busy

You should use Seafoam instead of watermelon.

Damn straight! Just think how long it would take to get there, having to stop every 3 seconds to get the trailer straight again

^^ Yea that could get tedious. I think the best solution would be to just pull the trailer using forward gears lol.

Ram hauled the Mustang and trailer like a pro. 150 mile round trip with zero issues!

Mustang ran 11.5@117

Bought an 04 Ram Hemi QC. So the 98 is for sale!!!
