I always heard it was the other way around. That header gaskets were thicker therefore less likely to leak. It used to be recommended to soak the header gaskets in water before installing for a better seal. Don't really know if that's still the case. They might be made of different material than they used to be. Last set of headers I installed was long ago so haven't really kept up on it.

Sorry to bring up an old post but I have 2 quick questions, is the gaskets that come with Pacesetter headers good or do I need diff. ones? And is the difference in performance or anything between an offroad y pipe or a Magnaflow y pipe?

NO
ALWAYS. also rust.
DON'T. then you have to do custom exhaust, and then you run out of room for pipes, and have to turn them out to the passenger side, or dump them down

I already have a custom exhaust though?(just no headers..yet) And have room for extra pipes, still wondering on the offroad y pipe and just a y pipe.

I used to have a picture laying around, but I've lost it.. you'll want the pipes junction restricted as little as possible.. the OE Y is a joke, choke central... the off road Y isn't mechanically obstructed like the OE..

insofar as gaskets- I played hell for a long time.. it's been a good long while since I've had issues, and it's because I did what I knew I should have done in the beginning- I went with Remflex gaskets and stage8 locking bolts.. problem solved..

stage8 bolts: ~$50ish
Remflex gaskets: ~$50ish

it was well dang worth it..

all that said, the headers isn't where I found gains.. removing the factory Y is where I found gains..

Huh I see, would that Magnaflow y pipe do the trick too for replacement of the OE y?
