1999 dodge ram 1500 5.2 200,000 miles auto

Truck did not want to idel today, replaced the IAC again and its fine.
what could be causing the IAC to go bad?
thanks.

i havent cleaned the tb or the carbs..
i bought this $43 part from advanced discount auto parts and i told the guy that i had just bought the same part a few months back.. he obviously blamed the carbs being dirty and not the part being faulty.
i just want to make sure its not the part so i can buy an OEM one this time and im still going to clean the tb and carbs.

i fought a period of what i thought was bad IAC's. turned out to be a bad TPS. there can be strange interaction between them. IAC doesn't kick in unless TPS says its at idle. TPS can also cause surging idle RPM.
sometimes PCM reset helps things and makes you think the IAC swap helped.
DO clean the IAC port on the back of the throttle body, at the end of the IAC well. also clean the well so the pintle can seat properly. i think cleaning the rest of the throttle body is not so important, other than a general cleaning with brake or carb cleaner.

Yea, the IAC can't handle all 3 of those things at once. Anyway, here's a DIY on how to clean the throttle body and IAC. Just make sure you remove the negative battery cable before doing so.
