So for as long as I can remember most people here have recommended a 180 tstat with the SCT Tune, and all this time it's been costing them gas? Oh well....

As I had said, Sean told me I had to have a 180 with the SCT. Trust me, Id like to have better heat, but in my thinking, Sean would know more about his tunes than I would, so Im taking his word for it.

You want an 180' t-stat with most tuners. You need a cooler running engine so you don't get detonation when you advance the timing. In my experience with Hemifever's tunes, you will get more power and when you keep your foot out of it, you will get better gas mileage than you did before.

He never told me that. For canned tunes and basically stock motor it's not needed as far as I know.

I think the tune is based on 180 stat, but I am not sure. I am running 180, but with e-fans, temp is normally around 176 degress (MT 2500 reading - not gauge on dash). But I am running rich since I installed revisdion to stock tune so I will be contacting Sean when I get time (or remember to do so) - whichever comes first!

This was a reply I got from him. I had a 195* at the time I loaded the tune. (last line):

Thank you and Happy Holidaysif it pings with 91 tune and 93 octane gas my thought is its more of a leaking plenum issue. If you already have fixed ur plenum gasket but never seafoamed the engine afterwards it'll still have a bunch of carbon deposits built up on the pistons. Run a can of sea foam through there and then change the plugs. The bottle will say to use the brake booster vacuum line to suck 1/2 the bottle in to the cylinders and let it sit an hour before cranking. The 180 stat is also needed

Thing is, you should have plenty of heat even with a 180. So maybe you have another problem?

Well, Ive replaced the stat (boiled), water pump, radiator, hoses, and flushed the entire system. The heat sucked when I first put the 180* in when I did the plenum along with the flush and water pump. I changed back to a 195* and would be roasted out. Got the SCT and had detonation running 93 gas with the 91 tune. Contacted Sean and he said due to the timing curve, a 180* was needed. Put a 180* in and detonation was gone, but so was my good heat.

Within the last month or so is when I did the radiator and hoses. No change in heat.
