changing rear oil?

Default changing rear oil?

so my rear end has been ticking for a year and I now plan to check it and want to know what oil to use for these rears and how do I refill the oil.


my truck is a 01 ram 1500 sport 4x4.

I use Lucas 75/90 in mine, there is a good write up in the DIY area how to do it with pictures. Check it out

walmart has their brand in 75w150 and 85w90 in a gallon jug for a reasonable price. either of those is fine. you'll probably need 2.5 quarts to change it.

you check it/top it off using the rubber plug on the back side. you drain/refill it by removing the cover.

I think the ticking was a safety measure dodge incorporated into the diffs, when it ticks just change the oil and its all good

Make sure you add friction modifier of you got an LSD rear end.

What if you don't put any friction modifier in the oil??

Then the lsd clutches will start slipping and burn up
