Default 1996 Ram High Beam and headlight issue

Hi, so im kinda new to this forum and was wondering if you guys could help me out. Recently i found my headlights werent working, but my high beams were. i checked grounds, fuses and the lights themselves. Also the parking lights and brake lights are working. The other thing is my switch to temporarly flick my brights on and off works but it cant be pushed away from me to turn the brights on perminetly. not sure if it has something to do with the switch to turn on the headlights? and i am totally lost for why the high beams are not turning on perminently.

Check the fuses. Separate one for High and Low (at least on 99, not sure on 96).

We checked all the fuses and they tested fine, so none are blown. Would it be worth replacing. And for my headlights the fuse is in the relay box under the hood. Is this the same for your '99?

I have a 96 and don't press away from me to turn on the highs, you pull towards you once and click on the high's pull again and back to lows. I am thinking multifunction switch in the column needs replacing. You can download the 96 factory service manual in the DIY area. It has an area on the MFS tests, 8J-2 in the FSM

My 2001 has 1 bulb that is for both high & low beam. If yours is like this, just get new bulbs. I say this because there are 2 elements inside of each bulb. If the dim element burnt out on each light, that will cause your issue.

Do you have tilt steering wheel? If so, it may be a pinched/broken wire. I had this and that was the problem. Really tight wiring in the column. Do a search on here. IIRC it was a purple wire.
