'99 Ram 1500 318 Timing Cover Trivia Question
If you leave the cam and crank in. And are only changing the timing chain and sprockets. There is almost nothing you can mess up.
Just plop the old ones off, don't move anything at all. And put the new ones on. Not complicated at all really as long as you for go moving things.

there is no rush. wait until you have a place to work, plenty of time to do it, and its a good idea to combine the job with water pump replacement and plenum fix.
its not hard. clean the face of the old and new sprockets, locate the dots, and highlight them with rtv or paint or something. rotate the engine to align the marks. note they are keyed. remove the cam bolt. slide off the old. DO NOT TURN THE ENGINE.
<< if you do turn the engine, stop, turn it back, and don't do that again>>
slide on the new. verify dot to dot alignment.
<< if not aligned. stop. fix it. >>
reinstall cam bolt. done. no fuss, no muss.
