Default crankshaft postion sensor

Looking for advise on a trouble code my 01 2500, gas threw out yesterday. It said the crankshaft potision sensor did not agree with the cpu. Does this sound like a bad sensor? Could it be that simple? It did not tell me the sensor was bad or to change the sensor. I am experiencing some performance symptoms such as rough idle. What do you think?

Had it checked at Auto zone, not sure exactly what it was but told him to refer to computer which is where it stated that the CPS did not agree with the CPU. I dd not get a printout, sorry. I could go have read again if needed. First tried ORielys and there reader could not conect with the truck.

If you can drive it, then yes, get the code's read again. And more info about the problem may be in order. Like, does it run fine when cold and then shut down when warmed up?

Hey z-man, seems like it's going to be an intermitten problem. As I drove it yesterday the light was not on. Still had the erratic idel though.

Try cleaning the TB and IAC for the hell of it before spending money. And disconnect the negative battery cable before doing so. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-r...n-the-iac.html

if you end up having to replace the CPS, do a search of it here. I posted a 'how to' somewhere about it.

On my 01 ram I can cycle the key on off three times leaving the key on on the third cycle and the truck will read me diagnostic codes through the odometer. Just a little helpful advice.
