Tail light removal on 98?
I've got a burned out tail light on my 98 quad cab. I took out the two torx screws inside the tail gate lip, but the housing still does not come out. Looking in the hole on top of the bed rail, I can see a screw into a tab from INSIDE the light housing. On the other side of the truck, the bottom black part underneigth the reverse light is broken out and looking in there, there is another screw just like the one I can see on the top, but down at the bottom. So there are two screws from inside the light housing into clips on the bed so the housing will not come off. It is not in the Chilton book at all and no one at Autozone has ever seen anything like this. How the heck do I get the housing off or the bulb out?
Thats really wierd. When I put my euros on I took out the 2 or 3 torx and if I remember right it poped right out. It was so easy I actually did it in the dark in the middle of winter. I think it took me less then 10 mins for both.
Once you drop the tailgate and remove the screws, you just pull it straight out. There are two clips that have kind of an interference fit, but it will come off if you give it a yank. Just be sure to pull the top and bottom evenly.
