Default Problem after Hypertech programmer

I borrowed a friend's hypertech max energy programmer. I went through it, but didnt realize till after that I had the program settings for 2001, but my truck is a 1998.
It attempted to write these settings over my factory computer but failed. Now the truck won't start, and I can't change the programmer to 1998 becuase the programmer wants me to change my truck back to factory settings becuase it failed the first time.

Anyone know of a way to reset the programmer so it will let me change it back to 1998?

If it works like a superchips, it first saved the stock configuration. I would re-load the factory settings like it is telling you to do and the start over.

Hopefully someone else will add something, otherwise, a call to tech support may be in order.

I imagine worse case is I get the dealer to reflash, or else buy a used computer?

If you "borrowed" the tuner from your buddy, it is likely vin-locked to his truck..
BAM! if that's the case, there's your problem.

If not, it's likely a 98 thing as 98's are friggin annoying like that.

I went through the logs, and your correct, it still has his VIN in it. So I imagine what I did was write his "return to factory" overtop of time, except it failed half way through.

To get it back to original working condition you have to plug it back into his truck and return HIS truck back to its factory settings, then you can use the tuner on your truck.

That is, if you didn't already fubar the tuner.

If the program was "interupted" returning to stock on the 1998 truck it would have displayed "programming interupted, press Y to continue" when first connected to the 2001 truck.
If you selected yes the unit would try to finish the interupted program thinking it was still on the 1998.
This would explain his vin showing up now and your vehicle would be disabled.

If the unit was still programmed to his truck you would have gotten a code 91 and would not have been able to enter the program/write mode on your vehicle.

NOTE: !!! Advise your friend Not to try on his vehicle again with this unit ***He will likely disable his truck also.

Call tech support at 1-800-532-3351 and have the P/N & S/N available

I believe the device gave an error 65, but I will have to double check when I get home.
So if I understand correctly, it WILL not try to write my truck(1998) if his truck's (2001) information was still in it?

I will call tech support today if they are still open by the time I get home.
