Well guys it finally happened. I was out mudding and something claimed the rocker pannel right in front of my passenger rear tire. No Bueno... Luckily the damage isnt bad. But all this means is its time to break out the tools and fab up some rock sliders! I'm going on christmas break here in a couple weeks so I want to build them then. What I'm thinking is something along the lines of these that bolt to the frame, but I will also welt them too for extra security:

I have all the equipment and experience to make this happen over the weekend. However, I dont know what size tubing to use? I'm going to make mine out of all round tubing unless someone has a good reason not too. I have a hi-lift jack that will be used on these to lift up the truck too so they need to be able to support a '01 Ram 1500 on 33's (about 6,000# when I'm on the trail). I was thinking wither 2-1/4 or 2-1/2 with .250" wall. Is that too much? Too little or just right? What would you guys recommend? I play around big boulders and stumps (idk which is responsible for the current damage though)

Size depends on how you build them.
Go to pavementsucks like Matt said, although many of the pictures there are lost, but you get a general idea. Many other sites too. Most ppl with our Dodges make their own or get a set of Toyota pre-fabbed ones and fab for fit. Not that hard.
Go look. Figure your appealing design. Get to work already.
