Default Front Lower Shock Mounts Bent

Hi. Been reading the board since August when I started overhauling my Dad's Ram (mine now too) but this is my first post. Recently I replaced the shocks and had a heck of a time getting the fronts off. The lower mounts were crushed in on the shock (they looked a bit like this but not such a severe angle: / \) and it took a lot of prying to get the shock out. I bent the brackets back to being straight but when I torqued the new shocks to 100 ft/lbs I could tell the mounts bent back in again.

My question is simple. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it normal on these trucks or should I have the mounts replaced?

Josh

It's at least common, if not normal. I wouldn't worry about it.

Welcome to DF!

Okay good to know. Thanks for the info and the welcome. I've gotten a lot of good information from the board so far and I'm sure i'll have a lot more questions. I've boldly decided to do as much of the work myself as I can. So far, new end links, new sway bar bushings, new track bar, new shocks and steering stabilizer, and new coil springs. I've got new leaf springs and associated hardware in the garage waiting to be installed. Pass. side ball joints have almost 185k miles and driver side 283k so those are up next and my axle seal is leaking again so it's getting replaced at the same time. And I'm just getting started.

Well, ya know, the up side is that it never ends.
