Default 1997 dodge ram 1500 4x4

I want to know if my dodge truck frame is heat treated. It is a 1997 dodge ram 1500 4x4. It has some rust on frame and I want to fix it. HELP!

If the frame is heat treated I cannot just go and weld on it cause it will weaken it

I've wielded, exhaust hangers on my 97 Ram 4x4. I haven't had an issue with the frame weakening from it. Guess mine is heat treated.

The frame has factory welds on it, which was then PWHT to normalize the properties. Prior to those steps it is hydroformed.

You are able to weld on the frame, however, it does take care to attention as the web is ~1/8" making it susceptible to blowing through.

The technique will be dependent on what you are planning to do. Know that many frames of these 2nd Gens have been welded on for all kinds of things from cracked frame repairs, coil bucket reinforcement/repair, mounting for rock sliders, complete cutout and replace, and various other fabrication.

Get to work.
