Cold weather running questions
I have noticed here this winter that my truck has been running kid of odd... Every morning I start it up and back out of the drive and when I shift to drive it jumps forward and dies. Any ideas???? My dad and I think that it's something in the throttle body or in the choke. I just don't want to replace something if it isn't broke especially a throttle body thats expensive. Thanks!
Choke? It ain't got one. Don't need a choke when you've got electronically controlled fuel injectors.
Try this, and report back: When it's good and cold, first start of the day, let it idle for three minutes and keep an eye/ear out for stumbling at about the one minute mark. If it starts really running like crap at that point, you've got a failed oxygen sensor. If it doesn't, remove and clean, or just replace, the IAC -- it's that electrical widget on the back of the throttle body. Thoroughly clean the bore on the throttle body it lives in, too.
Be sure that you disconnect the negative battery cable before doing any work on these things. It not only prevents expensive booboos, it resets the PCM so it will relearn the system again. Replacing either component without resetting the PCM leads to frustration.
