Highway driving

Driving highway round trip about 80 miles when ever I would get up close to 65-70 rpm would shoot up to 3k and stay. I jut replaced my iac that helped me with my horrible cold starts a little bit. Transmission? I was going to go get it look at next week any way but should I not wait?

HeyYou 01-19-2013 11:42 AM

It's either slipping, or O/D is dropping out..... does the trans temp light come on shortly thereafter?

PmuLLin 01-19-2013 12:00 PM

Nope nothing comes on and when I hit 65 it jerks up into 3k rpm real violent like your putting it to the floor but I'm not

The only thing I can think of other than the trans going out is readjusting the linkage on side of throttle body, tv cable is what it's called iirc

PmuLLin 01-19-2013 03:25 PM

How would I adjust it?

Procedure is in the service manual. Easier with two people, but, not required.

Well my main concern is should I rush to a tranmission shop to have them look at it or is it ok if it waits another week just don't drive highway.

it sounds like Overdrive and TC lock is releasing. common causes of this are bad TPS or brake light switch. try replacing TPS, about $40-50 at any parts store. keep your old one as a spare, it may or may not be bad.

Pull the clip out, move it to about 1/2 to 1/3 inch up slide clip in and go for a test drive. But that only helps with kick down. Prolly need to buy overdrive clutches. All you have to do it drop the tail shaft and replace your clutches and reinstall. Don't have to pull the tranny. Pull the pan clean the solenoid and magnet run the truck for a couple miles and do a full fluid change. When the overdrive clutches go out or your torque converter is going it puts tons of metal shavings into the transmission and clogs everything. Start saving for a new transmission if that's the case.
