Default Front drive shaft problem, need help fast! (Go Figure)

Hey Guys, long time no see. Says my last login was in '08.

Anyway, I but it in 4wd the other day for the first time in a while and felt some nasty vibrations, and this was at 10mph. Didn't take it any faster than that. Crawled under and saw that the front drive shaft u joint on the pinion yoke was pushing the caps out and it was wedged in there.

Picked up a new joint and changed it out last night. Then I noticed that that something is wrong on the pinion. I'm use to having little "nubs" on the yoke that hold the u joint from moving back and forth. My pinion doesn't have these on either side.

Am I missing something or are the nubs just broke/rusted off?

Thanks

some have the little nubs, some dont, and require the use of the c-clips.

my original yoke on my d44 had the nubs, but when the u-joint failed and my d-shaft went flying out of the truck at 40 mph it destroyed the yoke. i installed a yoke from a 94, and had to use the c-clips because there were no nubs.

just use the c-clips that came with the u-joint.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was wondering about that but it just seemed like a really crappy way to hold the joint in there. If that's the way it was designed though I will put it in that way.

Now to fight this thing in the snow and 0°F weather again.

Thanks!
