I just bought a 01 ram and it feels like it shifts into 4th at 42 to 45 mph, but the converter won't lockup until 50 mph min. My older 99 ram shifts into OD at 42 mph and locks up at same time , unless it's cold. On the 01 whenever you drop below 50 mph it down shifts or unlocks, until you get over 50mph again. Both trucks have the software update stickers on the pcm. What is normal because this drives me crazy after driving a truck that hits OD at 42 to 45 and won't downshift until about 38, which is what I'm used to.

Checked both of those things already. Both trucks info is in signature. The 01, like brand new, is 5.2 and old red has the 5.9, both have same 46re trans. Both trucks shift points are the same 1-2, 2-3, but OD lockup acts so different. The lower mileage 01 seems to shift at 42ish, with slow steady throttle increase, but will not lockup 1 mph before 50. So mostly wondering if that's normal or if 4th and lockup should be closer together? PCM controls OD.
