Just checking on your progress. I was away from the forum for over a week, after I crashed my computer (got delete happy, and Windows didn't like it too much). The cahins will seem like they're too loose sometimes, but as long as they aren't slapping the case, you're okay. I replaced one in my Cherokee just because of the high mileage. It was only about $60. Good re-assurance if you can swing it, and already have it apart. I'm trying to figure out what you found in yours (plastic ring piece). I know the forks usually have plastic tip covers, but they wouldn't be curved. Hmm.

dude, its not really all that bad. and hey Two60s98, I found out that it was a piece of the shift fork pad. I got all new ones from the dealer. The only problem Im having is that i bent the one snap ring and i went to the dealer to get a new one. well the one dealer didnt have it but they said another dealer 45 mins away had one in stock so i drove there and it turned out to me 2 sizes to big. then i had them order me the right one and they said it would be there in 3 days. Went back 3 days later and it wasnt the right one again. then they sent me to another dealer another 45mins away that had it and this one was too thin. now im getting really pissed![:@] Then i went back to the other dealer and had him order it again because he said he thought he knew which one it was. well another 3 days later i go back and guess what. ITs still the wrong one. By this time im doing a few of these
[sm=headbang.gif][sm=icon_beat.gif][sm=wtf.gif][sm=shootshoot.gif][sm=bangbang.gif][sm=bomb.gif] I was so damn pissed. Why cant these idiots ever get anything right![sm=rant.gif]

Shott - It just looks intimidating. With the back case half off like tani has done, all that would be left would be to pull the rear output and the front output shafts out with the chain, and swap them out (provided the front yoke was removed too). Hardest part about the whole job is getting the oil pump and pickup tube back mated up.

Tani - Good to hear it was only one of the fork pads, but sorry to hear that the dealership parts guys seem to be morons. Hope you get the right ring soon.

yes i agree. the hardest part was getting that damn thing back together. wasnt that bad, just took a little time and i little time to think it over. Hey two60's98, is there a torque spec on the bolts. I dont know if there was but i torqued them down to about 15 foot pounds and snapped one of the heads off. [:@] that was the biggist pain in the A$$ to fix.

I assume you're talking about the case halves bolts? Not sure about the Rams, but the 231 in the Jeeps are at 22 ft lbs (I think). Not too tight. Not sure why you had one snap at 15. So, yours is back on the road it sounds like?

yup, I just said screw it and rebent the snap ring and got it on. The only thing is that now my speedomiter isnt reading. I think im going to have to pull it apart and make sure its engaging. do you have any Idea's as to what it could be. I think its just that the gears on the sensor are not lined up right.
