Hold old is too old?
I have a 97 dodge ram SLT 2500 that has pretty much been used the past few years to haul stuff around..lumber, furniture, etc. The body is actually in pretty good shape, under carriage has some rust, but nothing serious. Mileage is 104k.
Maintenance, mainly oil changes have been performed on a regular basis, however repair bills have been high the past few years. Brakes and rotos a couple of years ago (which I know is part of routine maintnenace), than the fuel rail needed replacing last year (that ran $800.00).
Just curious if people think this truck might be nearing the end of its usable life for someone who does not do their own repairs?? Ive been thinking I might want to think about getting rid of it while I can still get some money out of it.

Obviously, your question is a matter of opinion.
If you do not do your own repairs, I would recommend looking for something newer. However, 104K is not a lot of miles for one of these trucks. Ultimately, it is a crap shoot.
If you decide to keep the truck, plan on getting some basic tools and manuals to take the bite out of older-vehicle ownership.
Just sayin...

Doing my own repairs is out of the question...Too many irons in the fire already, just don't have the bandwidth to do that.
With regular maintainance, everything should be fine for quit awhile. Mine has 150,000 miles on it. Bought it roughly 3years ago with 102,000. Still going strong with no major repairs. And I hual and plow. Others on here have over 200,000 miles without major repairs.
But then Ive seen trannys needing rebuilt at less than 100,000, so, its a crapshoot so to speak.
I would say that if everything is good, keep it and run it. Or find a more fuel efficient car for daily commute and use the truck for "work". Thats what Im going to do.
