If it's a stock 4x4, NON ORE, 3.55 rear end, unless someone else has regeared.

Considering you tow and don't want to regear I'd stick to 265/70/16 or smaller. Just my $.02

i don't tow a lot, just about once a month, but ill be hauling a car down to tennessee so im kinda iffy on the tire size. ive got 285/75 r 16 and it hauls fine so i thought with 315/75/16 it wouldent be to bad either. anyone else try this??

I wouldnt tow with 315's and 3.55's. Thats a recipe for disaster. I have 4.10's in mine and it was an absolute dog withg 315's.

I have 315/75/16 on my rig and it's a diesel with 3.55 rear gears. It's not great. I could use a 4.10 myself, but having the cummins makes it bearable.
I wouldn't DARE try to tow with that tire size and a 5.9 gasser.
IMO, you'll be very disappointed. You'll have no bottom end. Also, you'll get 4-5 mpg's
In fact, because I'd rather not re-gear myself, when it comes time for new tires, I'll be dropping to a 285/75/16. Remember, a 315/75/16 is a 35" tire. And they are heavy buddy. Real heavy.

My buddy towed with his 318 1500 and 35's stock 3.55 gear too. If your only towing a short distance on flat ground you will be eh... alright. If I had a gasser and had stock gears I wouldnt go any bigger than 33's. Not only are you adding more weight but you are also taking mpgs off. Honestly I have 285/75/16's on my truck with a level and its not too big and not too small. I doubt ill ever go with any bigger tires. I like my mpg
