I accept it as a possibility, but im doubtfull, as I said, I can get under and spin the thing by hand, no squeek.

That surely doesn't prove a whole lot... I don't think you can recreate what the driveshaft is doing just spinning it by hand.

squeaking in 4wd only is front drive shaft.

They typically need some kind of load on them to make them squeak.

Mine squeaked by hand but mine was also submerged in mud prior. My bets on the shaft!

Took it to a shop and was quoted $200 for parts and labour for a rebuild, having it done this weekend, we shall see what happens.

Thanks for the advice.

$200 ? Damn. Had mine done for $100 (all new parts). Now I'm praying that it is your problem.
