Default Oil Filter

I seen awhile back someone had in a post that they were using a larger oil filter on their truck then what it calls for. I now can not find that post.

Does anyone know what number larger oil filter will screw on in place of my short stubby one on my 1997 5.9??? I prefer to use AC filters, have always had the best luck, but want the larger filter then what the stock one is.
Thanks for any help

Most parts stores will have a book on the wall near the filters that have these numbers they sometimes have a (L) next to the two filter numbers one will be the short one or standard and the one with the (L) will be the long. At least this is my experiance with other cars and trucks. It Has been a while since I had to look these up. So Things may have changed. If not ask the parts counter guy.

You probably won't find it listed for your truck in a parts store book. It's actually a filter for the older motors. I used to run them on my '79 Ramcharger.

The filter number is PH7226. It's a 1qt. filter, as opposed to the 1/2qt. filter the truck normally uses. That's a FRAM filter number, but you should be able to cross-reference it with whatever brand of filters you buy.

Thats what I was looking for, I checked the books at the store but they only went back to early 80s and they still showed the short filter.
Thank you for the info, do you see any problem with running the bigger filter on the newer truck, other then it takes a half quart more oil?

Thank you so much for the part number....
