My truck was pretty much like yours except I have the 3:55s, before I did all the work to mine last fall that I have listed below we could still pull a 16 foot trailer with 2- 1100 pound horses in the trailer with no problem with the tranny out of overdrive but in our part of Ks. we don't have to many hills unless we go East, anyway the truck did OK but sucked ALOT gas for the power we were recieving so I did all the mods listed and it is a new truck IMHO with much less gas consumption and all the power I need for what we haul. I do not go over 60 mph hauling the trailer loaded so keep that in mind. Good Luck!!

According to my sheet (Thanks Merc225HP!) I plugged in the 46RE transmission gear ratio values and engine speeds, 4.10 gears, and 265/75/16 tire size (Alot of Dodges had this size from factory), and here's what I found:

Torque converter locked in 3rd (O/D off): 55MPH@2395RPM
In second it would be at least 55MPH@3688RPM.
Seems to me like the torque converter is NOT locking in 3rd.

Just putting that out there for perspective... Maybe it's running the transmission in 2nd, or in 3rd without T/C lockup. Or is it in O/D without T/C lockup even though the cancel switch is engaged. Happened to me... That'd run RPMs up that high at 55MPH. (I'm just thinking out loud, I'm not stating that the above is what's wrong.).

Fuel sync should be set to 0. Period.

FWIW, I think this is one of your most contributing posts.

Ok Fuel sync back to zero...ping under heavy load is now gone but did not notice any real improvement power wise. 60 mph O/D off converter locked 2700 RPM. Compression tested number 8 150 psi. Verified both O2 sensors were denso.

Did kinda of find another issue wile beating on it on my test drive. If I mash the gas it will not shift out of second gear until I lift pedal about half a inch. Then it grabs 3rd gear.

When it wont shift it just stops accelerating and wont shift, when I lift I feel the truck start gaining speed then as I lift more it shifts into 3rd.

After I found this I Preformed the cable adjustment as per fsm no improvement. I am about to give up.

you more than likely toasted your trans. judging from your avatar, you also plow with your truck, no?

as a fellow ram owner, who also plows, id suggest a trans temp gauge. its a good idea to have o/d off while plowing too.

these transmissions dont cool worth a damn in o/d, get a bigger aux. trans cooler, and a trans temp gauge and go from there.

id also suggest adjusting the bands. that may help, it may not. also another thing that may be worth trying, is replacing the sensors/solenoids in the trans. might help also.

good luck!

Just drop the pan first, check for shavings, and change the fluid. Adjust bands and replace the sensors/solenoids unless the pan has alot of material in it. Dirty fluid can cause a lot of headaches.

Put a temp gauge along with the extra deep pan last year. Trans temp has never broke 160. But will ck fluid.
