catback or muffler?
With my '99 ram 1500 4x4 QC, should i go w/ a catback or just a muffler? Im looking for a deep rumble, thats significantly louder than stock. I realize a catback is alot more than a muffler would be, but would the gains be worth it? If i were to go w/ a muffler i would go w/ a Flowmaster 40 series, and im not sure what i would go w/ if i were to get a catback...what do u guys think i should do?
HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT TO SPEND THAT IS THE QUESTION.A COMPLETE CAT BACK SYSTEM WILL COST YOU A FEW HUNDRED MORE THAT JUST A MUFFLER AND NEW PIPES.I PUT A FLOWMASTER SINGLE IN DUEL OUT 50 ON MY RUMBLEBEE WITH THE 5.7L HEMI AND IT WAS GREAT.NOT TOO LOUD AT IDLE BUT TALKED TO YOU UNDER POWER.COULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE DEEPER BUT NOT BAD.
It all depends, if a catback would sound better than just a muffler and pipes, then ill spend the money for a cat, and i'd be able to spend around $500, But if just a muffler is gunna get me the same results, sound wise, then ill just go w/ a muffler and new pipes.
I decided to get a custom built catback on my truck. I really enjoy the power and sound. My setup is 2 40 series single in dual out flomasters...the classic two chamber flows. Basically I have two flows side by side that are run from the cat and connected to a custom built y-pipe. I have no dumps..just 2 inches of pipe coming from all 4 outlets. Here is a clip I did of me going up a steep curving hill. Remember that my windows are up. Hope you like it. -Tyler
