Default trans. problems???

Hello everybody. New guy here (Tom). We traded around for a 2000-3/4-2wd with a 318 auto. 105xxx and looks perfect. Anyway, the transmission wants to stay in 1st gear way too long, no matter if your just putting along or pouring the coal to it, then it wants to skip 2nd and go to 3rd when it finally does shift. Same with the downshift, skips second straight to 1st. Still pulls great, never slips. Fluid is good. Now, a few days ago it started making a noise in the trans, and it sounds exactly like a power steering pump that's running dry, that whiny sound. I thought it was the power steering till I crawled under it. It only makes this sound in drive or reverse, not neutral or park. Anybody got any ideas before I start on it? Haven't looked around yet but I'm scared where its a 3/4 2wd 318 it might be hard to come by a used one? Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Have a good one.

For the shifting maybe the kickdown cable is out of adjustment

The fact is, the 2000 2500 never came with a 318. Just the 360 as far as V8's go.

Well whatever the fact's are, mine has a 5.2-318. And the trans just went out this morning. So never mind, time to rebuild anyway.
