Default 408 Stroker for mudding

Ive used the search button read up on some stuff but I wanted to see if anyone else had any information on hand.

My buddy gave me a free 360 motor that was in his old dodge, 140k miles timing is off. Sweet right?! Well I am at a little fork in the road. Should I rebuild the 360 or go ahead and buy the 408 kit?

Money isnt a huge issue as this will be a slow going project. Im not in a huge hurry either.

My questions are, what would you guys do? 408 or 360 still?
Also, what kit and parts would you recommend?

I want to have a lot of power. It will be a daily driver as well but I dont care about gas. I work 2 on 2 off in prudhoe and blow my money on gas when im home anyway.

A 408 may be overkill for mudding....but great for power for a DD!

I'd do the 408 stroker kit. As they always say there is no replacement for displacement.

since you asked, and in my opinion, a 408 is a huge money pit that's way overkill for routine mud crawling around at 10 mph. now if you want to cross the mud hole at 90 mph and don't give a damn what's in the bottom of it, it'll be fine.

do you need a new motor? if so, rebuild it and put it in. if you don't, keep the motor for when you do and save your money.

my 360 has a 212 duration cam in it. all fresh! with 285s i put down 300ft lbs to the street. gas mileage is heck! it is a fun truck.
now a 408 would be more fun. it depends on what you want the truck to do. live its life on giant tires or run quarter miles or just add pep to a DD?

I would like to have enough power to go where ever the hell I want and not have to worry about not having enough power to go places.

I guess today is the starting sign that I need to begin this project, god damn transmission went out.

If i rebuild this 46re would it be able to handle the 408?

Rebuild the tranny right and yes it can handle the power of a 408.
