Default 46RE toast?

Ram has 133K on it, I just did a complete a tranny service with new filter/fluid and adj the bands which were really loose. When I dropped the pan, fluid and filter were clean.

Few days after the service while trailering my Dakota up a long hill my 98 Ram with 46RE began to slow down even while giving it more gas...All it did was make more noise and something smelled hot

Now the Ram does a few things...won't always shift to 3rd and the rpms will flare up unrelated to vehicle speed if I give it a little gas at 20-30 mph and when coming to a stop sometimes I can feel it suddenly slow like another brake has been applied.

Rebuild time...or something simple? I'm thinking rebuild, it doesn't like the added weight of the trailer and I'm towing the Dakota 10 hours away in June.

FML.

That sucks. Sounds like it is toast to me. Somebody else who actually knows what they are talking about might actually help you though.

Good luck man.

Could be loss in clamping pressure either on drum or clutch pistons. Suggest checking pressures at test ports on pass side of tranny.

Not going to put off the inevitable, for the same reason I'm replacing my water pump and timing chain and why we replace tires before they turn to dust and change oli....

Truck goes in for a new tranny next week.
