A grinder would be just as quick if not quicker. And the grinder would be more versatile in the long run. You already have your mind made up about the hammer though.

Since your set on an air hammer, check out harbor freight tools, lowes, home depot, sears...Read some reviews on ones your interested in.

I've used several different tools to remove the rivets, and they are a b!tch to get out.

Air hammers work well with a nice chisel, sometimes you'll get lucky and you can use a punch with an air hammer to punch out the rivet once the head is off, sometimes you have to drill them out a bit before they'll pop out.

The best air hammer I've ever used is a Snap-On PH3050A unit. It's deceptively powerful and well balanced. I picked mine up on craigslist some time ago from a mechanic getting out of the business. Please note that removing ball joint rivets can be a painful exercise - as was stated previously, best to grind the heads off with a 4" grinder, then use an air hammer with a punch in it to knock the remaining rivet out. As for removing a ball joint on a 4x4 setup, I used a 3/4" Ingersol-Rand impact with a ball joint press and plenty of PB Blaster to remove them. My 1/2" impact did not have enough power to remove them.
