Default 1994 no revers

hi I just bought my first truck 1994 dodge 1500 4x4 guy had new motor put into it aboit 4 years ago of course it from 1994 she needs a little tlc cosmetics. but any the guy I bought it from said it needed the reverse linkage hooked up he has driven it that way for a few years motor is tight a lot of power shifts gears good no slipping is there such a thing as the reverse linkage and is it pain in *** to do or a lot off money they unhooked the 4 wheel drive but idk about 4 wheel drive any ideas thanks I am first truck want to fix it up as I drive it

No such thing as reverse linkage, one cable going to the trans. and connected to the valve body does the shifting.
Lots of good info here about how the 4W drive works, time to start searching, studying to learn how it works. Ask exactly what he unhooked for starts. Lots of possibilities as to why it doesn't work.

Ok Thanks for the info I will do that I thought it was strange also especially when all the other gears work fine and it shifts and down shifts fine I figured it would slip if transmission was going bad but thanks I will find more info out
