Default 95 5.9l egr problem

I just recently joined this forum and have pretty much have read every thread haha I just picked up a 95 dodge 2500 reg cab long bed 5.9l v8 for pretty cheap. I thought it ran well, untill I took to to echeck and it failed for too high of NOX.

So i looked up that the egr would cause it so checked under the hood and the egr was not hooked up.. There is a vaccuum hose that comes from behind the intake and is plugged into the top of the black plastic egr valve thing then another rubber hose comes off bottom of the plastic egr thing and goes into the passenger side of the intake, and im pretty sure thats not where they are supposed to go.

I tried to get a picture, fro my understanding there should be a vacuum hose that connects to the top of the plastic valve then there should be a hose coming off the plastic valve going to the top of the egr valve then a hose coming off the bottom of the plastic valve going to the bottom of the egr valve.

now my question is, where does this rubber hose that comes out of the side of the intake go? Im sorry if I wrote a lot or am hard to understand, but I appreciate all the help. does anyone have any pictures of their egr valve on a 94 95 dodge with the 5.9l

Download the factory service manual in the FAQ, DIY section. It's all in there. Haynes manual has it as well.

You should have a pipe coming from the back of the intake manifold to the exhaust header on the passenger side, is that still there? Maybe someone put a cap on it before you? That should be part of the egr system as well.

Right I looked in the manual and everything, I get how the egr is "supposed" to be hooked up, but there is an extra hose I am confused as to where it goes. It is T'd into the line that comes out of the passenger side of the intake labeled "climate control and 4x4 axel" but for some reason is connected to the plastic egr solenoid thing as you can see in my picture. I do not know where this hose is supposed to go to.

Beings I have the exact same setup as you, I'll take a look at how my truck is and get a picture for you if I can. Probably won't be able to get it to you before tomorrow afternoon. Unless someone chimes in before then or you figure it out.
