Default Odd Sound After Plenum Fix

Hi,

Finished a plenum fix a few days ago.. Just had time (and got the nerve) to check out if it starts..

Single crank, and off to the races Let it run for 5 minutes.

As the engine cools.... For about 5 minutes, I was getting a loud ping sound every 5 seconds from the intake manifold. I'm assuming thermal expansion/contraction.

Is this sound normal ? or am I just neurotic ?

Most likely what you said " expansion/contraction" . In a couple days, retorque the intake manifold. (when cold)

Yeah, Not the exhaust... I've had this truck for 20 years, I know ever creak it has..

It sounds like a cat them ping, but much louder... I'll give it a few more days. It may just be a new sound..

I'll retorque in a few days to let it breaking a bit...

If the plenum was bad, so is the cat and o2(s) you know!

A quick update ... The popping has subsided after a few days.. Maybe its a "fit in" period.. Did recheck the torque on the exposed bolts.. all ok.. New sounds are a red flag for me..

@zman17... The cat was rattling around in there for at least 15 years.. Just put on a 3" exhaust, new cat, o2 sensor and muffler. No real power improvement over the plenum fix, but it sure sounds nice.
