Default Bad Handling

Hey just purchased a 99 SLT Laramie 4x4. Replaced both front bearings and joints while I was in there. Truck has good steering response. Problem is its a bear to keep it on the road on secondary streeets. Road walks pretty bad. Had the front end aligned also and helped some. Tires are new. Is this just normal for these trucks? Have read other posts they drive and handle great. Any ideas???

MY 99 was bad untill I repaired my track bar. Another known problem is the steering box can wear and need adjustment/replacement. There are fixes out for both I put a LUKES LInk on my trackbar to fix it and I am going to put a steering baox fix on. The lukes link site is www.lukeslink.com . I don't have the other site right now when I get home I have it linked and will post it. You can find out alot by searching these boards.

U wouldn't think that your truck would have handling problems.

i second the motion on the track bar.. when you go in reverse and back up and turn does your front end sound like a pop or a thud? is so ( and even sometimes theres no sounds) your track bar bushings are craped out and you can reload them so its a new track bar or deal with the walking... my stearing is loose.. i can move the wheel left and right about 3 to 4 inches before i get a response so im gonna check into that stearing box fix securtis was talkin about and i need a new trackbar aswell b/c im levelin out the front end 2 inches and the stocker is crapped out anyway...hope this hels... also your tie rod ends might my worn enough to make it walk around on ya... check it out... alot of times it can help it have a buddy start the truck and slowley turn the weel left and right and you can watch all over your stearin system and sometimes notice where the play is coming from .. from what parts seem to move slower or are behind in movement than others... my buddy had the same problem and did that little trick and found his tie rod (ends) move before the wheels moved... new tie rod ends fixed his problem hope this helps

Your right on bout the pop in reverse. Have went over the steering and suspension several times. Everythings tight. Has to be the trackbar. Gonna try the lukes fix. Have checked out the steering box fix and they make sense. Hate to wait 2 weeks for ship tho but its worth a try.

once you get it fixed, go back and get another alignment and set the caster to the maximum the tech can put into it. this will help out alot. there is a thing called a death wobble that has the front end shaking violently at higher speeds when you hit a bump... this will fix that too...
