Default Noise I cannot find

1994 Dodge, 1500, 2wd, 318, automatic.

I have a noise with at a load or follows the gas peddle. I have checked anything that rotates with bearing in it by hand and with a stethoscope. I put on a pair of gloves and felt along the length of the car and found nothing loose. I have been getting the truck ready to smog and have been all over the engine compartment and have not run across anything in that area. It may be that the tinny, vibrating or bearing sound decrease as the truck warms up.

Thanks

Emmett

It sounds like one of the idler pully bearings going out or a vibration of a thin plate. I notice that the sound increases going up hill or with a load.

you'll need to determine if its engine RPM related, or drive line related.
if you can get on a nice straight road, and get the noise going at a steady speed. then shift transmission to neutral. listen for a change. then let engine drop to idle (any change?) then rev engine to 2000-2500 rpm (any change?) or did the sound remain steady based on road speed....

to test the pulleys - unhook the serp belt from the tensioner, and rotate (and wiggle) each pulley individually. they should be tight, smooth, and silent, and have no wiggle. check them all including water pump and power steering.

a bad power steering pump will whine like hell and get louder and higher pitched with rpm.
