Default Transfer Case Question (NV242)

Have a NV242 in my 98 Durango. I know this is the ram section but i thought i would post it here as well as the Durango section since the same case is in the ram also. Thought maybe you guys may have some ideas on this too..

Drained the transfer case to change the fluid i got almost a quart out. Went to refill, FSM States to fill till it starts to run out the fill hole. Also says that it takes 1.43qts to fill... 3 quarts later its still not running out.

Am i not doing something right?? there are no signs of leaking anywhere.. any thoughts would be helpful.

Take a pic post the drain and fill plugs. I'm thinking you might have removed the wrong plug to drain or fill ? BTW, most rams use a 231 and a 241, not a 242.

That's gonna be easy as i currently have the case removed for a transmission overhaul...

Now i did have a steering box leak and a torque converter leak recently that is getting fixed now, that's what i am going with for the reason the case is so dirty at the moment... i'll keep an eye on it and look for leaks...

Close enough for government work... either way IMHO i think truck and jeep owners generally have more experiance with 4x4.

well, i'm a little slow. this is a 231 from a 1500 pickup.
the drain and fill plug are around the raised circle on the back side. fill plug is at about 3:30. drain plug at 7 o'clock.

I know this is a dumb question, but, the TC was installed in the truck and truck was level when you filled it right?

Yes it was...

Ill be installing it again next week. I went ahead and ordered new input and output seals for the case since its out and working on a bench is much easier.. i guess well see how much she takes this time..

I'll also get a better idea if its leaking also as all the transmission leaks will be fixed.
