Default speedometer and check engine came on same time

Can someone tell me if it is just a coincidence or are the 2 problems related. Noticed my speedometer stopped working 5 seconds or so later check engine light came on. Anyone have an idea on what might be the problem. My truck is a 95 ram clubcab 5.9 auto tranny 4x4

I just bought this truck has 115k miles so far runs good checked fuel mileage around town got 12.8 mpg

ZMan Thank You Thank you! I printed the link and will keep it for future reference.

For yours and anyone else's info got the truck back yesterday It was a bad speed sensor which did trigger the check engine light too. If I had the codes ahead of time like I do now. I would have at least looked/thought about doing the fix myself.

Again BIG Thanks to you ZMAN!

Zman, did you install the rock solid steering fix your self. Can a 66 year old semi intelligent old dude install this or should I take it to a buddy to do? Front end is in perfect shape took it a front end shop that's been in business for 6o years here. As part of the buying process .. the truck is cool now BUT she still gives me to much chatter feedback in the steering wheel and to much play for my taste.

It wont eliminate right to left steering play. I'm guessing you have other problems, like a bad gear box (very common). Make sure the trac bar and all other steering and suspension components are up to par. If they are, get a Red-Head gear box and replace the steering column bushing(rock solid bushing) while the shaft is out.
