Which Diesel?
I would start with some side boxes built before I put the camper onto the trailer or I would like to find a short 5th wheel trailer. Take the 5th wheel off it's small frame and mount onto my trailer. As always no project is ever done and I would be updating stuff as I went.
Yep with some super cool my **** don't stink prices too.
Yes I was in Iraq in 2004, spent 14 years in the Army on active duty and then 14 years in the National Guard with the last 3 years being activated for Iraq. Got wounded in Oct 04 and then was medically retired in June, 06.
I'll agree that sometimes Dodge could do a better job on quality. As for trannies you're rolling the dice with any of them. If people would take care of them like they are suppose to they would last longer.
No I am not going to the Hammers. One year I do need to go and watch.
This is my tow rig now. 330HP Cat 6speed Allison tranny 33' w/no slides.
I got married in 09 and the new wife wanted more room than the camper. So I kind of agreed to trading off the truck, trailer & camper on this motorhome. I went almost 2 years driving a Chevy truck before I could get another Dodge. And then I found this 06 sitting on a lot last year and bought it. 06 only has a cat so no real smog stuff and easy to work on. Has the 48RE instead of the 47RE which is better. Once the Jeep is up and running I can start working on the truck. I'm shooting for 700-800 RWHP when I get done with it.

As for your new Ram, I think you can slap an EFILive tuner on it and start pushing it.
Dude,
Yep I can now use EFILive to tune my truck. I had a H&S tuner on the 08 and that thing would shet & git real good. I have not totally decided what I am going to do with it yet.
My first $6,000 is going o get spent on the tranny. Once I have a solid platform to build on the sky is the limit. I really don't need a big truck anymore so my Dodge is my Hot Rod. I'll have a nice rig when I get done with the major work.
My 6.7 in the 08 was making 400+ HP and over 1,000 ftlbs tq and all I had done to it as all bolt on. Which is why I keep telling the OP that I would go with a 6.7.
Yes a 5.9 can be made to produce good numbers too but from my experience the 6.7 is just the better engine. With the new regs you can't buy the tuners that I had new but you can find them used.
Johnny,
What are you building this truck for? Just to drive around? Tow with? Sled Pulls? Drag Race?
I think your better bet is to keep your 1500 that you bled for and rebuild it but keep the gasser engine.
If your dead set on a diesel engine then find a truck you can afford and buy it. But do not try swapping a diesel engine into your 1500 frame.

But if you live some where that your not tested you can take all the smog stuff off. My 08 only had 2,400 mile on it when I yanked all the emission crap off it and after that the truck ran awesome. Before that it had been into the shop 3 times for check engine light.

Try again.

Are we not already talking about adding a tuner to make more power? So then having to run a tuner due to my deletes isn't a huge issue. And yes you loose your warranty for emissions and engine maybe? But I didn't need it anymore since the truck ran great once I took all that crap off.
If he is buying a 08-09 truck now there isn't any warranty and if it is a wreck then you'd have issues trying to get warranty work done too.
He just asked which was the better engine. I think the 6.7 is and will stand by that. Is the 5.9 a good engine? Heck yes it is and it can be made to make some serious power too.
