Just a quick update. Was out of town for a week and just got the rebuilt PCM installed yesterday. No P0505 anymore. At least for now

Might do plug wires and a coil soon, still feels like it has a miss. They are cheaper than a timing chain job, and look original, so can't hurt.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Route your plug wires according to this TSB, http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1998/18-48-98/18-48-98-v8.htm

Thank you for the link zman17. Going to print this out and put it in the truck. Already see a few wires that aren't routed like pictured, but most appear to be correct.

Started truck today and let it run til warm, but as soon as I started it I had a P0443 pop up. At least its not the other code. Curious why I didn't have that code on the old PCM, now I do. Plan to start at the gas cap, then trace the vac. lines to the evap canister, after it stops raining.

check all the ruber hoses from the charcoal canister to the purge solenoid, the ones that connect in the charcoal canister have some elbows that tend to root, did this on a 2001 replaced the ruber elbows, disconnected the purgue solenoid (give some little beats with an screwdriver) and reconnected again, that fixed the issue and cleared the code

I read your test results in the first post. The voltages are supposed to be checked with engine running and the IAC unplugged. None of the drivers should ever have over about 5-5.3 volts on them at any time.

Oh crap nevermind, you fixed it lol ...

Thanks for the replies

Update - the replacement PCM was bad. Was not sending the ground signal that controls the EVAP Purge Solenoid. Reconnected old PCM and the EVAP Purge Solenoid worked just fine. So they are sending me a replacement replacement lol. Good news is they said I can keep my old PCM as long as it takes for them to get it right so I can move my truck if I need to.. just hope it doesn't take any more PCM's than the next one they send. Will update when code free

good for you sir, and please keep posting until you fix the trouble, there are too many threads with "unresolved" issues, hope to see a "fixed" reply soon, good luck

Let this issue be resolved. 3rd PCM from this company finally seems to work. Let it idle til warm, cool down a bit, started back up, test drove, parked, etc, and no trouble codes currently.

Now for anyone else who makes it to the last post of this thread.. let me fill you in on something I had no clue about until I purchased the 'rebuilt PCM'.. there is a bright orange sticker on the front of it that says "attempting to program this unit will cause an internal failure code".. so to me, that rules out the chances of tuning in the future if I decide to step up to 35's and do a 2500 front and rear axle swap or a gear change.

Might just keep this one as a daily beater now, and save up for a Cummins.

Thanks for all the assistance, and on to the next set of issues!
