Default Broke the bed rail...

Ok guys so my truck has had bed rails for I don't know how long. For years im guessing. So recently I have been thinking about getting bed caps. So tonight I tried to take the passenger side rail off just to observe what it would look like if I had them off. Well on the bolt closest to the tailgate I don't know how but it decided to strip out and I got the front bolt out but here's the problem...it wont go back in. Like it just drops in. What it does is it screws into a piece of rubber that's in the square opening on the bed. So what do about these two issues? Should I just pull as hard as I can to get the stripped one out and take the other rail off and leave them off? And by the way, the screws are TIGHT!!

cut the head of it off. or notch a cut in the head of the bolt so u can try to turn it with a screwdriver, or grind the sides of the bolt head so u can get a wrench on it.

Ok I will try that. What about the other one?? I think it will stay there but it might bounce around a little bit. It looks like the rubber piece in the square hole in the bed has had a hole drilled in it for the bolt so when I go to tighten the bolt back down and I put it in its spot, it just drops down in the hole. :/ I don't want to be driving and hit a bump and the front part of it come out and drop and slide down the side of the bed and leave a nice long scratch.

To be honest, if you have to rig them to stay on, just take them off until you figure it out or get new hardware.

Yeah I was thinking about putting something in the hole for the bolt to grab onto or just getting a whole new rubber piece.
